Spotlight

Okay... I just needed to post another picture of my AMAZING Betsey Johnson frock. I feel like this picture gives you a better indication of the details on my dress. You can see the neckline, and the individual pink sequined ruffled panels. This picture also gives a glimpse into the tulle/satin underlay, as well as a peek of my shiny black patent bow ballet flats.

My Highschool Prom

Hi loves,
How are you?
Here are some pictures of my highschool prom that I attended last evening. It was such a wonderful night!
The decorations were cute, I had some great times with my school friend, and I spent the evening dancing away in my most beautiful Betsey Johnson Sugar and Spice Pink dress. The food was great, and the dance was amazing!
This is the Betsey Johnson dress I wore to my prom. My feet are a little cut off, but I will probably do another post with more detail shots, etc for you guys to see. I was so happy that I wore flat shoes because I danced all night, and at the end of the night, the floor was just GROSS from food, fallen corsages, etc.
If you are a regular reader of The Look Book, then you might remember that I did a blog post on wanting to wear this dress to my prom. Originally I saw this dress online, but I actually purchased this dress at the Betsey Johnson store in the Yorkville area of Toronto, Ontario. The sales people at the Betsey Johnson boutique were AMAZING. They offered so much help to me in finding the perfect prom dress (which mine truly was :) Also... when you go to a store like this, you are getting individual attention, and it seems like the sales associates really care about your shopping/fashion experience at the store as a whole.
This is a vintage popcorn machine. Cute, eh?!
Cute little carousel-esque decorations. The colour theme was blue, red, yellow, white. The theme of my prom was "Vintage Carnival". It was cute.
More popcorn and pouf material and triangular banners decorating an elevated area.
The lost horses make another appearance!
Great times!

On the Terry Richardson (Issue, if you will... )

Hello my dear blog readers,

How are you all?

I hope you are enjoying the nice weather if you live in London, ON. I love how the weather has the capacity to make everyone act more lively. Plus, I love a ton of the shorts/tee shirts and miniature skirt combinations I have seen so far. I should probably turn my lovely sightings into a couple of blog posts for you guys. What a splendid idea!

Also, I HAVE A NEW FOLLOWER!!!!!!! WOO HOO! CELEBRATION! Thank you Laurel and Beth :)

Now, onto the whole Terry Richardson scandal. Although it would be informative and informational if I posted some of the pictures related to the Terry Richardson scandal (if you will), I will not post them because they would most likely be considered as pornography, and one of the values of my blog is that I try not to post any pictures with show any woman or girl's private parts, and Terry Richardson's photographs definitely show off many a female's private parts.

THIS IS A PROBLEM!!!!!

God designed for both the male and female body parts to be private to everyone except for men and women's spouses in an intimate setting with only them. On everyone, these specific body parts are private, and we need to respect people's bodies, and their private natures.

I personally do not believe that Terry Richardson respects people's private parts in his photography work. This is only my opinion. I do not know what Terry's motive is for taking these pictures, so I will refrain from being too judgemental on his photographical work.

The subject matter of Terry's photographs is basically nude photography, but in a way that seems to completely defile and exploit the ladies who pose for the pictures. And who knows? Who knows if Terry had the objective of taking these kinds of pictures, or if the woman who take front and centre in these photographs wanted to have their picture taken like this? Although I highly doubt that many girls/young women or women would initiate for someone to take a picture and behave in that manner... although some might... but you would not really hope for that.

I think that nude photography can be beautiful. I really do. I also believe that there is a fine line between beautiful nude photography and just plain pervertedness. Using women's purposefully intimate body parts as seemingly mere accessory in photographs that, to the viewer, look just wrong, is so distateful. I mean... if you really want nude photography to be your main photographical focus, do it in what the viewer would feel is a nicer, purer, way.

Terry Richardson is a fashion photography. In the photographs, there seem to be elements of fashion that are missing. People can call nude photography fashion, but where are the clothes? You know what I am saying?
There seems to be no clothing in these pictures... I feel like if you want to take a bit of a nude photograph intertwined with fashion elements, at least have your models wearing a bit of clothing. I mean...

What if we started a revelation?

What if we came to a point where it was lovely and interesting to have girls in fashion fully dressed? I mean on the runway, and in fashion magazine articles. What if we got back to the wholesome, God intended way that we were at before? I mean... getting back to a more wholesome place would take creative direction from major players in the fashion industry, but I believe anything is possible.

I really advocate for modesty and privacy. This is the way God intended for us to dress, and present ourselves. I am a firm believer that we as woman can be covered up, as well as well dressed too. It is possible. I feel like fashion can be super innovative and creative, while still being attractive and appealing to the opposite sex.

I would love to know what you think about this issue. I think this is a tiny exploratory tidbit about what I could right, but I would love to hear more about what you think, and where you stand on this issue.

Love,

Jill

Once upon a time... in a land close to home: there were two beautiful girls who embarked on a sunny day adventure.

This sunny adventure included pretty outfits, funny poses, scorching sunshine, and ulitimately, photographs of two very beautiful girls.
This beautiful girl's name is Richelle. I happen to think this is a beautiful photograph.
Fun poses. No clothing credits. All clothing items are model's own. Jerrica and Richelle have such cool style!
Black and white creates a nice, fashionable contrast.
Black and white shirt and same colours in this lovely striped skirt with ruched/scrunching pocket detailing.
Not quite peep toe, not quite closed toe, VERY; stylish heels. I like this pair in particular because of the unique purple colour and interesting design of the shoe.
Every girl needs a pair of great high heels!

On Fashion

I love fashion.

Hence why I started a fashion blog.

I started to get really into fashion, and in short, fashion mystified me. In fact, the fashion industry as a whole still mystifies me. I continue to read magazines, fashion blogs of all kinds, fashion books, fashion websites like Style.com and other fashion related realms because I am in wonder of the fashion industry.
The industry that I have found that I like the best so far is, in fact, the fashion industry.

I love fashion because it is arty, and creative.

Not to be so cliche, but I strongly believe fashion is an art form.

The people who call themselves a fashion designer often:
Think of,

Sketch,
Refine their sketches,
Make a mock up of their sketched garments (which they have thought of themselves, inside their very own heads),
Refine their mock ups,
Add detail,
and more...
And finally, create a final product which can be sold in stores.

Even though this is not a painter creating a beautiful masterpiece on a canvas, fashion can be thought of as an art form.
I think even more because people CAN ACTUALLY BUY fashion, and PEOPLE CAN ACTUALLY WEAR FASHION. Just...
the thought of this gets me excited!!!!
The prospect of OTHER PEOPLE creating garments that OTHER people can WEAR. This, I believe, is a gift from God, people. REJOICE!

I can also see how fashion might be more accessible than real canvas, kind of type art. There are many clothing stores where the average person, no matter what their profession, background, ethnicity, culture, and religion choice can purchase a piece of beautifully crafted, amazing quality, fashion items. Excitement continues.

In fashion, there are SO many different designers which portray so many different styles

More to come!

Love,

Jill

Hi dears,
This is a variation on a "street style" post. This picture was not taken on an actual street, but it was not a planned photograph.
This lovely lady is one of my father's customers. You got that right... a father figure contributing on a FASHION blog! I am not going to lie, I totally thought it was crazy when my Dad e-mailed me a picture for my blog. My initial reaction was: what the heck?! I AM the one with the interest in fashion here. Sorry... I think I will just leave your picture alone... but the this's woman's brown cardigan and purple scarf combo with the interesting print on her shirt actually got my eye. I think her look is actually quite stylish. In the words of my dear Daddy "the scarf got me".

Shoes

Hello all,
How are you all doing?
Photo via http://www.jimmychoo.com/. If this image is not allowed on The Look Book, it will promptly be removed. Thank you!
I love these Choo's. I love the simple design and perfect nude colour. The heel is perfect (for shopping in NYC in the summer... more details to come!), because it is not a heel, but more of a wedge, so it could potentially be more comfortable for walking around all day in the city. The straps also offer more support as opposed to a flippity/flop for example.
These lovely sandals are available for purchase at www.jimmychoo.com.

Fashion Inspiration

Hello blog dears!
Yes, I have returned from the outside of the blogosphere. Hopefully I will be able to post and do outfit posts more frequently.
Enjoy!
For starters, I love, love, LOVE, this Marchesa frock worn by stunning actress Camilla Belle. I love the ornate embroidery and romantic feather detailing. The really like Camilla's clutch choice, and the minimal, white, sparkly, jewellery go with this darling look so well. It just flows, it is so cohesive. The black strappy sandals top this look off very prettily! http://cdn.buzznet.com/media/jj1//2009/10/belle-walk/camilla-belle-walk-of-style-01.jpg is where this picture came from. If it is not
I am feeling so inspired by fashion right now. This is American teen supermodel Karlie Kloss photographed by Patrick Demarchelier for the May 2010 cover of Teen Vogue. I think Karlie looks beautiful in this picture. This picture is clearly the property of Teen Vogue and team, and if it is not allowed on The Look Book, then I will promptly remove it. Thank you!
Stay tuned!

The Metroplitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute Gala: Celebrating the American Woman

Hello lovelies!
I just wanted to post some of my favourite looks from the Met Ball, which took place on Monday, May 3, 2010. The Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala puts on this event once a year. It is a great place for fashion industry greats to gather and celebrate with one another. This year's theme was looking at and celebrating the American Woman. All images via style.com, if they are not allowed on The Look Book, then off they go!
Okay... so there were about 100 pictures of the Met Ball on www.style.com, with I URGE you to look at... and I originally made a much longer post, but then I decided this dress was the most amazing, I wanted to focus on what I thought was the best dress, and why. This is actress (yes, I STILL call them actresses, I do not think they should have changed that silly rule), Camilla Belle, with fashion designer (and Michelle Obama favourite) Jason Wu. Camilla is wearing a Jason Wu gown, which I absolutely LOVE. I love the beautiful red colour and the breathtakingly elegant simple design of this classic gown. The low neckline on the dress highlights Camilla Belle's beautiful decolletage. I adore this look. What do you guys think?
I would love to know!

Mermaidy Scuba Divy Loveliness

Hi everyone!
How are you all?
I sincerely miss blogging. Must. Do. More. Often.
I super love this Spring/Summer 2010 Proenza Schouler dress that actress Natalie Portman is wearing. I just love the colour and feathery detailing at the bottom of this dress, and the flowy cohesiveness of this outfit as a whole. I super love the sheer fabric on the neckline, and the simple shape of this frock. This is a dress I would love to own! The shape of the shoes is so interesting. Natalie Portman has such great style!

Hair

Hello all!
I just wanted to share a beauty shot/self portrait I did with you all! The other day I came across a study which found that men really like women with LONG hair opposed to SHORT hair. CRAZY! Now I may just be superuptight or whatever, but I think that men should like women regardless if their hair is long or not... I mean, it is only hair. I know people are drawn to hair, and it can really catch your attention, but to not date/marry a FABULOUS girl because she does not have long hair, and you are a boy who prefers long hair... well that just does not make sense to me. Anyways! I love, love, LOVED, my hair this day. This was a GOOD hair day, and I was HAPPY. I love how curly and crazy and awesome my hair is in this picture. What do you guys think?!
